Kenyoku Ho: Energetic Cleansing (Dry Bathing)

Traditional Japanese practice begins with the state of the practitioner. Before acting as a clear channel for Reiki, you first clear and settle your own personal energy (Ki). Kenyoku Ho is the primary method for this purification.

It is a physical ritual used to brush off mental “static,” disconnect from external energy, and return awareness to your own center.

The Practice

Perform these movements with firm, deliberate pressure. Use a conscious exhale with each sweep to support the release.

Part 1: The Body Sweep
  1. Gassho: Bring your hands together at the Heart Centre. Set the intention to clear your field.
  2. Diagonal Sweep (Right): Place your right hand on your left shoulder. Sweep firmly across the chest to the right hip. Exhale during the motion.
  3. Diagonal Sweep (Left): Place your left hand on your right shoulder. Sweep across the chest to the left hip. Exhale.
  4. Repeat: Perform the diagonal sweep with the right hand one more time.
Part 2: The Arm Cleansing
  1. Left Arm: Extend your left arm. Place your right hand on the shoulder and sweep down the length of the arm to the fingertips. Flick the hand away at the end to release the energy.
  2. Right Arm: Extend your right arm and sweep down with the left hand. Flick at the end.
  3. Final Sweep: Repeat the sweep down the left arm once more.
Part 3: Completion

Return to Gassho. Drop your awareness into the Hara (lower abdomen) and take several slow breaths. Notice the sense of space and quiet.

When to use Kenyoku Ho

At The Reiki Life, we use Kenyoku Ho as a reflexive act of energetic hygiene:

  • Before practice: To clear the day’s residue before beginning Gassho or Joshin Kokyu Ho.
  • Professional Reset: Before and after treatments to separate your Ki from the client’s experience.
  • External Cleanup: After being in crowded spaces, intense conversations, or heavy digital environments.
  • Centering: Any time you feel “full” of other people’s energy or moods.

Integration with the Three Diamonds

Kenyoku Ho is a foundational part of the broader ritual of Hatsurei Ho. It prepares the entire system for deeper work:

  • The Earth Diamond (Hara): It anchors you back into your own physical base.
  • The Heart Diamond: It clears emotional residue so you can remain open without being overwhelmed.
  • The Heaven Diamond: It reduces mental noise and external impressions.

Regular practice ensures that the work of Gassho, Joshin Kokyu Ho, and Reiji Ho can unfold without interference.
